Cognitive Stimulation Program – Senior Services Center | Folsom, PA
Fostering Well-Being and a Sense of Belonging
The Cognitive Stimulation Program is a brain fitness program designed to encourage exercising and challenging cognition. The program uses a tool called a memory kit which:
-
Promotes positive review of one’s life history through reminiscence
-
Offers multi-sensory experience for individuals with vision or hearing challenges
-
Sparks validating reminiscence especially among older adults with limited short-term memory
-
Provides props and education for arm-chair travel lectures or themed parties
-
Builds connections to others based on shared experiences
-
Encourages lively conversation to promote social interaction
The kits are presented in private homes, senior centers, adult day care centers and residential communities (both independent and assisted living).
Each kit focuses on a theme related to history, people, nature, travel, and special topics. A kit contains music, pictures, different forms of memorabilia, brain strengthening activities and a DVD. Personnel or volunteers receive free training in use of the kits.
